I just had a ridiculously long conversation with a library director who has been around FOREVER and is like a walking encyclopedia of library knowledge. We chatted, she was incredibly sweet, and she gave me a great interview for a project I’m working on. Then I Googled her to find out her precise job title and guess what? She has a library named after her! Like, there is a giant, popular...

GPOYW: Less than 3 hours of sleep edition.
I’m usually an EXCELLENT sleeper (I love to sleep) but I was just way too wound up and stressed last night. Debating dropping one class so I’m not so overwhelmed? I just don’t know what to do.

It’s official; Tumblr is heading to Austin. The social networking giant is not wasting time getting started.
“We really thought carefully about it and wanted to find a special environment where we really could grow these teams and grow these careers and work with customers, work with people…

Proposed Budget in Texas Nearly Zeros Out Key... →
This is sickening. A new proposed budget in Texas could basically do away with all funding for libraries and their services.
Really, Texas? A world without libraries? The mere prospect of reducing budgets from millions to a few thousand is ridiculous. What a weird (and sad) day for Texas libraries in the news.

Kay on the news: Fight the power
My mom was on the local Austin news last night. I tried to embed the video but it doesn’t work, I guess because it’s off a local news site?
Anyway, she went to the local school board meeting because they were voting on a new plan that would eliminate 536 positions in the schools. Originally the plan included eliminating 52 school librarians, and...

An open letter to live bands of the world:
There is nothing more boring to witness than a 5+ minute drum solo. It’s a fact. More accurately, any drum solo lasting more than 30 seconds is too long. Stop it. It’s overly indulgent and no one likes them. Please take notice of the percentage of people getting up to go to the bathroom/bar/outside/chat with friends and adjust accordingly.
Muchas gracias.

Good news, bad news
Bad news: Jeff is pretty freakin’ sick. He has chills and is pretty miserable. The doctor said it’s probably viral, he might have an ear infection, and there’s not much to be done.
Good news: Jeff doesn’t have strep throat. Or the flu. He was given some antibiotics to ward off some of the bad junk. I am feeling better than I have the past few days and will hopefully...

Being sick is boring
Jeff and I are sick. Therefore I’m spending my afternoon watching My So-Called Life on DVD and baking snickerdoodles. Exciting stuff.

Since school is kind of a wash today, I have decided to finally watch the Golden Globes that I recorded while I was in Breck.
I’m so hip on current events and topics now! Tumblr makes sense to me again!
